With a woodburning fireplace in an all electric house our options were limited. Living in Texas we don't need a fire very often, and this was an opportunity to have the look but not the excess heat or mess. There were other options, but this was the way we decided to put our IRS refund to better use.
Putting it together was challenging, but once we got it setup, we were thrilled. How clever!

To spend this amount of money, we weren't sure what to expect, and to be perfectly frank…I was prepared to be disappointed and send it back. Wow…was I wrong.
Packaging was 1st class…there was no way it was going to be damaged in transit unless it was run over by the truck. Set up pretty direct.
What we did was add a little "Disney effect" to complete the transformation from a cold, unused fireplace to a warm, realistic atmosphere. (See pictures) My wife "staged" the fireplace with a basket "at the ready" with a log and kindling from the yard. Also fireplace accessories and a screen. The screen is not shown in the pictures, but it is a small screen (you don't want to overpower and take away from the "fire".
However before we did any of that, we took charcoal briquettes and burned a ¼ of a bag to get the ash that we strategically placed around the base. Make sure not to get carried away and put it on the display…just use enough to make a gradual transition from the fireplace floor (and also cover the cord). Add some burnt twigs, sit back, and enjoy.
It may sound like a lot of unnecessary work from a fireplace display that's already good…we think the finishing touches are worth it.
Ease of use? Our 5yr old granddaughter when visiting (before she does anything else)...goes into the room and pushes a button on the remote. Done.

For the cost we were expected a well designed unit which is what we received. The pleasant surprise was the mostly realistic look. We have had several prople walk over to warm their hands and be quite surprised.
