Professional Installation

Note: Mounting hardware is not provided as each individual fireplace wall is different.

The following tools and hardware are required to complete your installation:

  • Tape Measure
  • Mounting Bracket (Included)
  • Drill
  • Pencil
  • Wrench
  • Hammer
  • Level
  • Lag Bolts
  • Washers

Step 1 - Location of Shelf Mounting Bracket

Place the shelf on the wall above your fireplace or on the wall at the desired height. Level the shelf and draw a line on the wall at the top of the shelf. Remove the shelf. Next measure the distance from the top of the back of the shelf to the bottom of the attached bracket. Use this measurement to determine where the bottom line will be placed to mount the corresponding bracket. See Figure 1.

Note: There are many different masonry bolts and anchors avaiable, be sure to choose the appropriate ones for your wall.

Step 2 - Attaching Mounting Bracket (Board) to the Wall

The shelf mounting bracket is a long, narrow wood strip. Line up the bottom of the mounting bracket with the lower line and attach the mounting bracket to the wall in this position. Make sure the mounting bracket is level. Mark the position you deem appropriate to drill the holes in the bracket. If you are mounting the bracket on a standard drywall over stud construction, make sure you screw the mounting bracket into the wood studs (2x4's) for strength. When attaching the shelf to a brick surface you must use Masonry lag bolts. Mark the location of the holes to be drilled by marking through the holes you've drilled on the bracket. Drill the holes in the masonry in the locations you marked. Then insert anchors into the drilled holes then insert lag bolts through the mounting bracket into the anchors and tighten. Make sure the mounting bracket is secure to the wall as shown in Figure 2.

If installed into masonry use lag bolts and anchor them to the wall through proper sized holes drilled in the bracket, as well as a counter sink to accommodate the bolt head and washer as shown here. This important as to be sure the back side of the mantel fits flush against the bracket and doesn't wedge against the back of the mantel and push the mantel away from the wall. This can be done by first using a forstner bit for the counter sink and a regular wood drill bit for the remainder of the hole. Be sure to use the approriate sized lag bolts and washers, as well as any internal anchors your installer deems necessary.

If installed into a sheetrock wall be sure to drill holes all along the mounting bracket and counter sink them in the same way as described in the (install for masonry instructions above). Position the holes along the bracket at the studs (2x4's) in your wall, anchor them at as many stud locations as your mantel covers. Be sure to use proper sized lag bolts and washers to properly secure your mantel. Please Note: It is only necessary to counter sink the holes in the bracket if you are installing one of the following mantels: The Scroll, The Belisario, or the Hansel. All others this step is not necessary.

Step 3 - Install Shelf on Mounting Bracket

Install shelf over mounting bracket and slide down until shelf is tight against the wall. Then, push down firmly on the top of the shelf to insure that the shelf is resting solidly on top of the mounting bracket.

Note: Gaps between the wall and the shelf may occur due to uneven walls or masonry. This is normal and is not a defect in your mantel.

Receiving Your Shipment

We are committed to making sure you are satisfied with our products. Your order is inspected prior to shipment to ensure all items are in excellent condition before they leave our facilities. Although our products are packaged securely to prevent any damage it’s possible that in rare cases, damages may occur during shipment.

Before signing for the shipment inspect the carton. The most important thing to remember about truck freight is that when you sign for the delivery you are legally accepting the product as delivered in good condition. Therefore, it is extremely important that you inspect the product prior to signing the delivery receipt. If there is damage to the carton or the product, please write "CONTENTS DAMAGED" clearly on the delivery receipt that the driver is asking you to sign, then sign. This insures that your damage issue will be easily resolved.

If your package has tears, rips or is otherwise in poor condition, open the package and inspect the contents. You may need one of the following on hand to help open the carton: knife, hammer, pry bar or wire cutters. Should you notice any damage, please note it on the delivery receipt and contact us immediately.

If your package/item is damaged, you can start the damage claim process by completing this form.

NOTE: We cannot be held responsible for the cost of repairs or replacement of damaged items if there is no notation on the Freight Delivery Receipt. Contact us within 24 hours to initiate a damage claim.
